A Short Song
by Caocao
对酒当歌，
人生几何。
譬如朝露，
去日苦多。
Let us sing with wine in our hands!
How long is a human life?
It is like dew in the morning,
I am grieved so many days have fled.
慨当以慷，
忧思难忘。
何以解忧？
唯有杜康。
My heart is moved and stirred,
sorrowful thoughts are hard to leave behind.
What can relieve me of this sorrow?
Here is only the famous Dukang wine.
青青子衿，
悠悠我心。
但为君故，
沉吟至今。
Green are the collars on the scholars’ necks,
long are the considerations of my heart.
It is only for your sake, gentlemen,
I have been thinking and chanting.
呦呦鹿鸣，
食野之苹。
我有嘉宾，
鼓瑟吹笙。
Mewing and mewing, the deer cry,
grazing on wild wormwood.
I am entertaining honored guests,
zithers and pipes are played.
明明如月，
何时可掇？
忧从中来，
不可断绝。
Bright is the moon in the sky,
when can I ever embrace it?
Sorrow is born inside the heart,
it can never be brought to an end.
越陌度阡，
枉用相存。
契阔谈宴，
心念旧恩。
You crossed many paths in the fields,
humbling yourself to pay me a visit.
Intimately, we chatted through the party,
and recalled our old love for each other.
月明星稀，
乌鹊南飞。
绕树三匝，
何枝可依？
The moon shines bright among the sparse stars,
and the magpies are flying to the south.
They circle and circle around a tree,
not sure on which branch to perch.
山不厌髙，
海不厌深。
周公吐哺，
天下归心。
Mountains are not concerned about their height,
oceans do not fret themselves over their depth.
Duke Zhou repeatedly spat out his food at meal times,
